President Li Yong was invited to accompany Chinese State Councilor Wang Yong to attend Seoul Conference of Boao Forum for Asia and address the conference

Seoul Conference of Boao Forum for Asiawith the theme of “Open and Innovative Asia” was held in Seoul, South Korea on November 20. President Li Yong was invited as a guest to attend the conference and make a speech in the conference.Wang Yong (Chinese State Councilor), Li Luoyuan (Prime Minister of South Korea), Ban Ki-Moon (former UN Secretary-General and current Director-General of Boao Forum for Asia), Zhao Mingjun (Unification Minister of South Korea), Meng Yang (deputy Secretary-General of the State Council), Li Baodong (Secretary-General of Boao Forum for Asia) and other high-level leaders of China and South Korea attended the conference and delivered speeches.

 

The keynote speech of Chinese State Councilor Wang Yong pointed out that at the key moment when the economic globalization faces challenges of and the international order is attacked, Asian countries should join hands to serve as vindicators of the international order and rule, defenders of multilateralism and free trade and leaders of global development and regional growth, create new wonders for Asian development, and make new contribution to world’s prosperity.

 

In his keynote speech, South Korean Prime Minister Li Luoyuan said that as Asian current economy faces the coexistence of challenges and potential, it is necessary to adhere to the five major spirits of innovation, openness, inclusiveness, cooperation and peace, and wrestle with challenges and give full play to its potential. In the face of trade protectionism and domestic priorities, it is necessary for Asian countries to uphold openness and jointly seek solutions.

 

Ban Ki-Moon, former Secretary-General of the UN and Chairman of Boao Forum for Asia, said the world today, including Asia, is facing multiple crises of uncertainty such as anti-globalization, trade protectionism and isolationism. Asia should further strengthen cooperation and consultation, uphold the values of globalization, free trade and multilateralism, promote sustainable economic development and become a driving force for world growth.

 

Li Baodong, Secretary-General of Boao Forum for Asia, pointed out that since its establishment 18 years ago, Boao Forum for Asia has played an important role in condensing consensus, promoting cooperation and enhancing influence in Asia based on Asia and facing the world. Boao Forum for Asia held a conference in Seoul, which had built an important platform for the promotion of dialogues between political and business as well as exchanges between economic and trade in the region.

 

This conference is the first time that Boao Forum for Asia holds a conference in the South Korea. Over 800 government officials and business people attended the conference. The conference centered on topics such as world economy and regional cooperation, scientific and technological innovation and inclusive growth.

 

During the conference, President Li Yong also had a cordial talk with Wang Yong (Chinese State Councilor), Ban Ki-Moon (former UN Secretary-General and Chairman of Boao Forum for Asia), Zhao Mingjun (South Korean Unification Minister), Yin Bingshi (South Korean Foreign Minister), Meng Yang (Deputy Secretary-General of China State Council), Li Baodong(Secretary-Generalof Boao Forum for Asia), Qiu Guohon (Chinese Ambassador in South Korea), Lee Hee-Beom (Chairman of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics), and other senior leaders of China and South Korea, and took a group photo.
